Many clients come to me with the belief that I can be helpful by offering some advice or wisdom that will solve their problems. There are many problem-solving strategies available to therapists to help their clients heal and grow and I use a variety of these strategies. The truth is that the essential foundation for the success of any treatment strategy is the trust, safety and respect that is established in the therapeutic relationship between you and me.
My goal is to help you discover the healing power within you that may have been concealed by anxiety, sadness, fear or trauma. I believe it is important to understand the coping strategies and strengths that you possess when you come to therapy. Then we can work to strengthen and add to them according to your needs. You are much more likely to be able to claim strategies to change and heal as your own if we partner together in creating them. I also work to help clients develop more resilience (if needed) so that future challenges may be managed without therapy.
I use a therapy called EMDR often when working with trauma and other problems that clients bring to therapy. It is a proven strategy for helping clients work through trauma quickly and often helps to build self-esteem as well. It relies on your unique path for healing pain from the past and developing a new sense of yourself for the future. I also use the Flash Technique, a newer trauma treatment method. I use other proven strategies for helping people change, employing them when they are a better fit for you based on who you are and your life experiences.
Though I have been working to help people change for fifty years, I remain curious about people, persistent in the solution of problems and committed to lifelong learning about helping people grow.
I have been in private practice for thirty eight years. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families. I have many years of experience working with trauma (emotional, physical and sexual abuse), anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, chemical and behavioral addictions, dealing with difficult people and men's issues.
I began my career working in crisis intervention, partial hospitalization and addictions in community mental health centers. I also worked at the Victim Assistance Program at the Indianapolis Police Department.
I am EMDRIA Certified in EMDR therapy. I am also an EMDRIA Approved Consultant for EMDR therapists offering supervision to new and experienced EMDR therapists to help them develop their EMDR skills, become Certified in EMDR or become Approved Consultants.

The purpose of this session is for your to provide an overview of the problems you are seeking resolve and the goals you have for therapy. I also provide time for you to ask me questions about me. My hope is that you will also be getting a sense about whether working with me on your problems would be a good fit for you. I will also be letting you know whether I believe that my experience and skills are likely to benefit you.
During the first two to three sessions after our initial meeting, I will be taking a history about your current problems, past problems, your family, medical and medication history and your past experience with other therapists if you have been in treatment before. By the second or third session, we should be planning your treatment together. If you come to therapy in a time of crisis we may defer taking a complete history in order to address your immediate needs.
When marital, family or other relationships become troubling, therapy can be helpful to find meaningful ways to reconnect and reestablish the closeness that most of us long to have in our loving relationships. Currently I am providing both in person and Telehealth services. Unfortunately, I have a waiting list. I am located at 6284 Rucker Road, the building in the southeast corner of an office complex called Binford Commons. When you arrive at this address you will see "6284" in green and gold on the side of the roof. Drive in on the south side of the building to the parking area near the pond and fountain to the west side (opposite the street side) of this building. The suite letter is "N" but the suite letters are not sequential around the building which can be confusing. It says "Living Well" in white letters on the door and 6284N on the transom window over the door.
